Local Goverance Consensus Information for Local Leagues
Dear League President,
Here are the materials you will need for the State Study on Local Governance, which focuses on counties and townships.
The outcome of the study may be a revision of the current state position on Intergovernmental Relations, depending on how members answer the consensus questions.
Please return your League’s responses to the consensus questions by March 1, 2008. Responses should be sent to the state league office.
1. Background for Consensus Questions is an overview of township and county government in Michigan. It is intended to give people a general understanding of how these governmental units work.
Economic Implications of the Transfer of Functions A staff paper from MSU Extension and Department of Agricultural Economics that offers a financial analysis of the potential implications of the transfer of functions from local to county governments. (added 10/01/07)
2. Consensus Questions with Pros, Cons and Contextual Information lists the eight consensus questions, gives specific background information for each question and then the pros and cons for that question.
3. Local Government Consensus Questions (PDF) is a list of just the questions and is to be used to record the consensus discussion responses, that is, “yes”, “no” or “no consensus”. There is also room to record comments by participants.
Questions or comments should be directed to Sue Smith (Ann Arbor Local League) susanprakkensmith@msn.com.
